What are cestodes?

Cestodes (also known as tapeworms) are a group of parasitic worms, including species that cause diseases in humans and livestock such as Echinococcus granulosus, Echinococcus multilocularis and Taenia solium.

In our laboratory, many of our lines of research are based on the study of another tapeworm species, Hymenolepis microstoma. This species is not dangerous to humans, and can be easily kept in the laboratory, making it a valuable model for experimentation.
